Dear Richmond Families and Educators;
I am honored to introduce myself as the District Parent Liaison for Richmond School District. My goal in this rold is to assist parents and educators as they travel through the Special Education process. I have attended 20 hours of training and orientation through CESA #1 and the Wisconsin Statewide Parent-Educator Initiative (WSPEI) and have access to many resources both in print and on-line.
As a parent, your involvement may only be with speech therapy or could be very extensive, but if you have questions or concerns about the IEP (Individualized Education Plan) process or the initial recommendation for evaluation, I can help you with your questions and provide resources and information to help you feel more comfortable with this process. As a parent of a child with special needs, I know that issues can arise in the course of your child reaching their educational goals. My hope is that I can offer you the support and resources for you to make the best decisions regarding the education of your child.
My goal is to assist parents and educators to work together, through positive communication and collaboration, to help all children have the best experience possible at Richmond. In the near future, the Special Education portion of the school website will be updated to include current and up-to-date online resources for your use.
If you have any questions regarding this role or would like assistance in obtaining information regarding parent and teacher support services, please don't hesitate to call or email me.
***Coming in the Spring of 2012, your chance to provide feedback. Look for a request to participate in the Parent Satisfaction Survey as part of the DPI Self-Assessment Process that Richmond is currently undergoing.
Sincerely,
Amy Elfner - Parent Liaison, Richmond School District
